Book Review

It was really nice to meet Preeti Shenoy, author of three books, during the book launch of “Tea for two and a piece of cake” at Landmark, Bangalore, on 14th Feb., along with my colleague Prashanth.

To be frank, the synopsis of this book didn’t appeal much to me when I read it, but then, I had loved the author’s previous book “Life is what you make it”. So, I wanted to read this one too.

The story is about ‘Nisha’, who had lost her mother in her childhood, and has uncaring father. Her job at point to point travel agency is her world, and the only friends she has are her colleagues Chaitanya and Akash. A chance date with the office hunk Prashanth and a bizarre twist of events sees her losing what she values so much in her life – her Job. When she almost gives up hope of finding another job, she meets Samir Sharma, who helps her to get a job in a better company. She ends up marrying Samir. All seems to be well. They have two kids, Tanya and Rohit.

Eight years later, the comfortable world she carved for herself comes crashing down, when Samir announces that he is leaving her for a younger woman, Maya.

As Nisha, struggles to stand on her own feet, hope comes into her life in the form of Akash, a younger guy, who is certain he has found the woman of his dreams in Nisha, who does not ever want to depend on another man again, nor does she want Akash to be straddled to a woman with two children.

You may ask, what the “Tea for two and a piece of cake” has to do with this story? It is the sweet and warm character Mrs.B, Nisha's neighbor, who brings in this concept, while having conversation with ‘Nisha’.

The book focuses on the point that by just giving birth to children, we don’t make good parents. It is bringing them up with love and care, which makes us so.

I really loved Akash’s endearing  character in this story. Also my heart went to ‘Nisha’, despite life pushing her off track…she manages to stand up with courage and fights back.I wish every woman reads this book and takes control of her life like ‘Nisha’ does in this story, if at all life throws a challenge like this one in their individual lives.

Also every husband should read it too so that they could understand their spouses better.

I am really glad that Preeti is writing something different every time. I wish she starts writing her next book soon, so that I don't have to wait for it long.

Thanks to Preeti, this is my second book review. My first one was for her book "Life is what you make it".

Preeti could be one of the best story tellers of our time, if she continues writing wonderful and heart touching stories like this one.
