The Man in the Park*
Flash Fiction
Based on a true incident
I didn't believe in ghosts until this incident happened sometime back. Many of you know that I am a morning walker. Earlier, I used start much earlier, even at 4 am in the morning while it was still dark.
The park keeper arrived on the bicycle, opened the lock of the gate, let me in. I started walking in the park which was dark in most of the places, including the path of walk ahead of me.
I saw someone walking fast at some distance ahead of me. I wondered, ‘How is it possible? I am the first person to enter this park!’
I started walking really fast to catch up with this person, who seemed to be a man dressed in white. He too was walking fast, and it was becoming really difficult to catch up with him.
My eyes kept him in the focus, until he turned around a corner. To my astonishment, he was gone when I neared that corner of the park.
‘Where did he go?’ I wondered, really surprised.
Then I heard rustle of dry leaves behind me. I felt as if someone had placed his hand on my shoulder, but I was really scared to turn back. I almost froze in fear and even didn’t breathe.
Then I found some morning walkers come from my front.
I breathed in and breathed out, and relaxed.
I continued my walking, but didn’t find him again. I decided then not to enter the park while it was dark and I am all alone.
